In case you are not familiar with the White Mountains or Pinetop-Lakeside, let me tell you there is something to do in every season. Although we are in Arizona, at an elevation of 7200 feet in Pinetop….we have had our share of snow up here. Located only thirty minutes from Sunrise ski resort, Pinetop is a great getaway for those who love winter sports, or simply want to take the kids sledding for the first time. I must admit that I was unsure about the winter’s up here myself, but even driving through town after a fresh snow has become an opportunity to see a beautiful postcard come to life.
Spring on the mountain not only comes with many gorgeous colors popping up everywhere, but with ideal temperatures varying from the fifties to the seventies everyday, even the most die hard city dweller will be motivated to hike one of a hundred or so nature trails in the area.
Of course the summer is a great opportunity to escape the heat most of Arizona deals with six months out of the year, so the mountain really comes to life then. We have are minutes from some of the greatest fishing in the state, with temperatures that generally linger around the eighties, it is all about the outdoors here. Of course there are numerous lakes in the area which offer great fishing, boating, and nature trails within miles of Pinetop, but Woodland park is less than 2 miles from the cabins here and should not be overlooked when enjoying all that Pinetop has to offer.
Fall is one of my favorite times of the year, and one my family and I always seemed to miss in the valley. Don’t misunderstand me, the desert certainly has it’s scenic value as well, but seeing the true fall colors up here has always been a treat for us. (and many others)
Make no mistake about it, while the White Mountains is only a short drive from the major cities like Phoenix and Tucson, it seems like another world once you arrive. Although we may be a small community people come from all over to enjoy the annual “car show” down main street, Show Low days, the Fall Festival, and a multitude of other activities which can be found at the Pinetop Chamber of Commerce. Which by the way is less than a mile from Moonridge cabins. 🙂
